John Loach (d. 2018) was a detective in the Los Angeles Police Department. He was Janice Moss's partner in the Ryan Madison murder case, which later became an investigation into Moss's disappearance. The case led him to hitman Barry Berkman, who he contracted to kill his ex-wife's lover.

History

The Ryan Madison case

At the crime scene where Ryan Madison's corpse was at, multiple pictures were taken of the body and the scene with Loach appearing in the background, appearing sad due to his wife leaving him for Ronnie Proxin. Loach would help and assist Janice Moss in the investigation of Ryan Madison's murder and learning about Ryan Madison's affair with Goran's wife.

Target on Ronny

When Monroe Fuches was arrested, Loach began to use him to get to Barry Berkman, hoping to get a confession relating to the disappearance of Janice Moss. Loach listened as Barry confessed to the murder of Janice, allowing Loach to enter the room. Loach then shows him a recording device and turns it off. He offers a deal to Barry: if he kills his ex wife's lover, Ronny Proxin, he will allow him to go.

Loach waits for Barry to return but after growing impatient, he calls a wounded Barry but is given no information. Later, Loach is told of an attack going on at a nearby supermarket. Loach runs into the building to find Ronny fighting Barry, giving Loach time to shoot Ronny. Loach then claims that Barry is holding a gun and starts shooting at him. During his attempted murder of Barry to cover up his own involvement, he failed to see Ronny stand up and kick him in the head, snapping his neck and killing him moments before Ronny himself was killed.
