John Berkman Jr. (b. 2020) is the son of Barry Berkman and Sally Reed, born shortly after they started living on the run from the law as a married couple.

John lives a relatively peaceful live mostly detached from society in a remote area somewhere in the United States, but he is raised with a distorted perception of the outside world due to his parents sheltering him as part of their plans to keep their identities secret. His father Barry often highlights bad deeds committed by generally well-liked historical figures while homeschooling him, hoping this will help John see him as good if he ever finds out about his father's criminal history. Barry even keeps him from going to little league baseball games by scaring him with videos of death-related incidents so their faces will not be seen by the public eye.

Years after Barry's death at the hands of Gene Cousineau, John has grown into a well-adjusted teenager who attends a public high school. One night after an Our Town performance directed by Sally, he visits his friend Eric and watches The Mask Collector, which erroneously portrays Gene as a villain and Barry as a tragic hero who fatally falls victim to his manipulations. John sniffles, holding back tears, and cracks a faint smile. However, it is not clear whether John is sincerely touched by the film's depiction of his father's legacy or laughing at how much of the story it got wrong, or possibly both.
Personality[]
John is a good-natured child, and later young man, who typically does the right thing. He does appear to have a slight anger issue, but this is quelled quickly.
